If your friend gave you their unique NRG referral link, you can enroll through our referral program if you are at least 18 years of age, a single-family homeowner or renter, and reside in a state in which NRG provides electricity service. If you aren’t sure if you’re eligible for NRG electricity service, you can enter your zip code to find out.

Your referral reward will be automatically sent to you once the friend you referred has been an NRG customer for 60 days. Depending on your friend's utility company, their NRG service start date may be in one to two billing cycles, which is about one to two months. The 60 days start on their service start date.

Your referral reward will come as a MasterCard electronic gift card from our partner, Online Rewards.

If you’re a new NRG customer, you can start referring your friends once your NRG service has started, which will be 1-2 billing cycles after you sign up. When you register your My NRG Online Account, you’ll find your unique referral link on the Refer a Friend page.

We offer a few plan options so that they can choose the plan that best fits their lifestyle. As long as they use your link, you'll both receive your $50 e-Gift cards no matter which electricity plan they choose.

Referrals: Referrals must be deemed “Qualified Individuals” to be eligible. Qualified Individuals must be at least 18 years of age, be a single-family homeowner or renter, and reside in a state in which NRG provides electricity service.

Referring Individuals: Referring individuals must be a current NRG customer, at least 18 years of age, a resident of the United States, and may not refer themselves, nor anyone living in the same household.

Qualifying for referral rewards: For each Qualified Individual that (i) clicks on the referring individual’s referral link provided by NRG, (ii) provides valid contact information and (iii) enrolls in an electricity plan and has continual service for 60 days, the referring individual will be eligible to receive a $50 electronic gift card. (Qualifying individuals will also receive a $50 electronic gift card after 60 days of service).  NRG reserves the right to change or discontinue this promotion at any time in its sole discretion and without notice. This is a limited time, non-transferable offer and cannot be combined with any other offer. Gift card recipients are responsible for any and all tax reporting and liability related to any referral payment. Participants will be contacted via email to claim any gift card reward and are responsible for notifying NRG of any change in email address.
